Tom Madsen Airport is a state-owned public-use airport in City of Unalaska, on Amaknak Island in the Aleutian Islands, off the coast of the U.S. state of Alaska. It is located near the Bering Sea coast of Unalaska Island, 800 miles southwest of Anchorage and 1,950 miles from Seattle.
It was built in 1941 as an emergency landing strip for military aircraft and was expanded in 1942 to accommodate large cargo planes during World War II. It was originally named “Unalaska Army Airfield.”
It is named after Tom Madsen, who served as mayor of Unalaska from 1946 to 1950 and from 1960 to 1966.
